Everyone wants to be loved. That sounds so nice, but can feel so empty. As I go through life I find it less fulfilling to hear -" I love you" - than to feel - "I understand you." It is beautiful to be "loved" and I am grateful, because it's better than being hated. Yet one could easily say "I love you" and be doing very unloving things behind your back. This can easily feel like hate. It can seem as though they don't understand what you consider to be the definition of love. Understanding someone cannot be forced. It can be attained through willingness and focus. It cannot be attained by insisting that the person accept as love, only what you wish to give. Their brand of "love" may not feel like "love" to you. Many of the saddest movies portray the heroine stating hopelessly that she doesn't "love" her would-be husband, only to hear him say, "You could LEARN to love me..."
I always thought that he would need to love her enough to let her go - and not demand that she "learn." Maybe it's that she doesn't understand him - or that he is blind to her feelings and only desires a placeholder that he can manipulate and control. Maybe there are people who hide too much to ever be understood. To understand them best is to understand their need for privacy. If you are a very open and honest person who wants to share heart feelings in an environment of trust, this is heartbreaking.
You may come to feel that you don't understand humans at all. With their endless facades and heart masks, with their fears and pretense, it can be a daunting task to attempt to understand anyone.
It is tempting to believe that there is a being greater than ourselves who always understands, who knows us intimately. It is a comfort that many cannot survive without. Believing that we all are "higher" beings and have merely forgotten how to interact on such intimate levels is somewhat comforting too. But it doesn't fill the void NOW.
So if you can learn to cultivate relationships in pure spirit, if you can let yourself believe there is a love that knows no boundaries or rules, you can survive to live another day on Earth. You can breathe healing into others here -even if they seem to reject you - or love you with intense superficiality. When your soul commands understanding and to understand, you will not be rejected. You simply must be willing to reach as far as needful, to expand your "what if-ness" to find what you've been searching for. Love cannot be contained, not by dimensions, not by death, and not by doubt, because spirit can reach for you too.
